Obituary Deacon Napoleon Rodgers

Deacon Napoleon Rodgers, 85 years of age, was called to eternal rest by our Lord and Savior Friday morning at 3:00 am , July 28, 2017, as he was surrounded by his loving and devoted wife, Sister Edith C. Rodgers; daughter, Ivy Rose Rodgers; brother, Rev. Henry Rodgers; sister-in-law, Minister Pinkie Rodgers; Pastor Darryl Andrews and First Lady, Sister Catherine Andrews, as he rested peacefully in his home in the Perote Community, Bullock County, Alabama.
     A Celebration of Deacon Napoleon Rodgers' life and legacy was held from the sanctuary of First Missionary Baptist Church 106 Holcomb Avenue East, Union Springs, Alabama, Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 am.  Rev. Darryl Andrews, Pastor, Mt. Hilliard Baptist Church, delivered the eulogy/words of comfort.  Visitation was held at Poe's Memory Chapel Funeral Home Friday, August 4, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

     Brother Napoleon was born March 9, 1932 to the late Roosevelt and Clennie Ford Rodgers in Perote, Alabama.  He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Hilliard Baptist Church Perote, Alabama, under the leadership of Pastor Marshall Angles.  He attended Perote Public Schools.  He was employed with the National Lead Corporation in Perth Ambay, New Jersey.  Later he bacame self-employed, N&E (Napoleon and Edith) Trucking Company, as a long-haul truck driver contracting with various companies.  He concluded his career at the Krajack Tank Lines after approximately 28 years.
     Brother Rodgers married the love of his life, Edith Cook, July 27, 1968 and to this union two children (twins) were born, Ivan and Ivy Rose.  Deacon Rodgers was a faithful servant of the Lord.  He spent many hours reading the Bible, studying God's Word and listening to gospel music.  He became a Deacon at Cathedral International, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.  His favorite chapter  in the bible was the 91st Psalm.
     Deacon Rodgers loved his family with the "love" of the Lord.  He was a promoter and supporter of social justice and equality.  He was a member of the NAACP in New Jersey and also joined the Bullock County Branch NAACP #5066.
     After approximately 50 years in New Jersey, Deacon Rodgers and his wife, Sister Edith, relocated to Perote, Alabama in 1998.  He was employed at Wayne Farms as a truck driver and retired in 2009.  Deacon Rodgers reunited with his "home church", Mt. Hilliard, and served as a  Deacon for a number of years and was Superintendent of Sunday School until his health started to fail.
     Preceding him in death:  his parents, Roosevelt and Clennie Ford Rodgers; brother, Johnnie Will Rodgers; two sisters-in-law, Odessa Rodgers; Ola Mae Rodgers;  three brothers-in-law, Cornelius Johnson, James Evans, Johnnie B. Thomas.
     He leaves to cherish his memories:  his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Sister Edith Cook Rodgers; two loving and adoring children, son, Ivan (Natasha) Rodgers (Somerset, New Jersey); daughter, Ivy Rose, (Perote, Alabama); four loving grandchildren: Jaylin, Sierra, Jamir, Syonna Rodgers (Somerset, New Jersey): four brothers, R. V. Rodgers (Fairfield, Alabama); Rev. Henry (Minister Pinkie) Rodgers, (Perote, Alabama); Thomas J. (Barbara) Rodgers, (Monroe Township, New Jersey); Ed (Judy) Rodgers, (Stone Mountain, Georgia); four sisters: Rozelle Johnson, (Dolomite, Alabama), Carrie Evans, (Rahway, New Jersey), Willie Ceil Thomas, (Banks, Alabama); Ella Mae (Steven) Brown, (Union Springs, Alabama). A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, Church Family, other relatives, and friends.
      Final arrangements were entrusted to the caring staff of Poe's Memory Chapel Funeral Home.  May God Bless and strengthen the family of the late Deacon Napoleon Rodgers is our humble prayer.  Deacon Rodgers will be missed.
