Elder Henry H. Rodgers was called to his eternal rest on June 30, 2024 at Southern Springs Rehab. Center, Union Springs, Al. Elder Rodgers was born and raised in Perote, Al. After years of work and service in New Jersey, Elder and his wife of over 58 years, Minister Pinkie J. Rodgers, returned to Bullock Co. About 10 years ago where he resided until his passing.
Services in Al will be held on July 6, 2024, at Mt. Hillard M. Baptist Church, 435 Co. Rd. 53, Banks, Al, 36005,Where he served as Interim Pastor until his passing. Services will also be held on July 11, 2024, at The Cathedral International, Perth Amboy, N.J., where he served as a Minister/Elder under Bishop Donald J. Hilliard for over 30 years. Elder's final resting place will be The Alpine Cemetery in Perth Amboy, N.J. Address 703 Amboy Ave, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. All services will be rendered, with tender care, by Poe's Memory Chapel, Union Springs, Al.
Elder Henry H. Rodgers was born on Dec. 25, 1937, the fifth of ten children born to the late Roosevelt and Clinnie Ford Rodgers, in Perote, Al. Elder Rodgers confessed Christ at an early age,
Was baptized and became a member of Mt. Hillard Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marshall Angles. He attended public school in Perote. He moved to Rahway, N.J. with his brother, Napoleon and his sister, Carrie to seek employment. He was employed as a corrections officer at East Jersey State Prison for about 30 years until his retirement.
On Aug.3, 1965, Elder Rodgers married the love of his lifetime, Miss Pinkie Mae Jackson. To this union, a son, Henry H. Rodgers III and a daughter, Karen J. Rodgers Frazier, was born.
Elder Rodgers loved his family and loved telling anyone about his Lord and our need for Salvation.
He believed in civil rights and equal justice for all and was a member of the NAACP in N.J. With a Silver Life membership in Bullock Co. Branch #5066.
While in N.J., Elder Rodgers was ordained a Deacon and licensed as a Minister at Second Baptist Church, Perth Amboy, under Bishop Donald J. Hilliard. He was in charge of the Evangelism Ministry, he served as the Head of the Marriage and Family Ministry , along with his wife, Minister Pinkie J. Rodgers. He was also consecrated an Elder Stateman at The Cathedral International (formally Second Baptist Church), Perth Amboy, N.J. He was a member of the Perth Amboy Clergy Assocation as liaison to the Mayor.
About 10 years ago, Elder and Minister Pinkie relocated t Perote, Al. After uniting with his childhood church, Mt. Hillard, they became well known for their warm Christian Spirit, love and devotion to each other and stylish dress. Along with attendance at local churches, they worked with the Senior Ministry at the Nutrition Site and shared the Gospel throughout the surrounding area. Elder had a voice that reminded everyone of Dr. Martin Luther King. He was noted for his sayings-"All is well" and "His Grace and Mercy".
After a brief illness, on June 30,2024, Elder decided to "Try Jesus" and with Minister Pinkie at his side, he went on to his mansion in the sky, at about 4:30pm at Southern Springs Rehab. Center, Union Springs, Al. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Clinnie Ford Rodgers, four brothers: Roosevelt (RV), Napoleon, Johnnie Will (Bill) and Ed Rodgers. One sister: Mrs. Rozelle Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Minister Pinkie J. Rodgers, two loving and adoring children-Henry III (Nitzaliz) of Pennsauken, N.J. And Karen J. R. (Zelva) Frazier of Montgomery, Al. Four loving grandchildren: Summer Joy and Evan Henri Rodgers, (Pennsauken, N.J.), Zaniyah Joy and Zander Ethan Frazier ( Montgomery, Al.), one brother, Thomas J. (Barbara) Rodgers (Monroe Township, N.J.) and three sisters: Carrie (late James) Evans (Rahway, N.J.), Willie Ceil(late Johnnie) Thomas(Union Springs, Al) and Ella Mae (Steven) Brown(Union Springs, Al). A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, Church Family, other friends and relatives will always remember "Tank", "Uncle Tank", Elder Rodgers for his bright smile and big heart.
