We met 39 years ago tonight, it was a cold September night in 1981. You reached across the hood and helped me out of what was left of the car I was riding in. I know you didn't see us when you rolled through the stop sign. It didn't have anything to do with the color of our skin, our age, or whether we were rich or poor, it was an accident that happened because of a dangerously designed highway exit ramp that put our car in a blind spot. My friend was giving me a ride home because my car had broken down, again, it was my first car. It was his first car too, a 1968 Nova, but now his head was trapped between the roof of his car and the steering wheel as the engine sputtered and chugged. Our car was stuck under your tanker truck after you rolled through that stop sign and blocked the road. You only dragged us a few feet but it seemed like forever because everything was in slow motion, the rear tanker tires were ripping at my door. My friend died a couple day later, after his organs were harvested, he was only 17 years old. His friends and family never recovered from their loss. We never heard from you after that night, you didn't show up for the deposition and let your employers lawyer make it look like it was our fault because we were teenagers. I hope you found peace in life, and when you and Brooks meet on the other side, I hope you two can come together to watch over us who are left behind. God bless you, rest in peace, until we meet again.

Nap was like extended family for the Todd family. We will always remember the joy and laughter we experienced together. Our joy with Nap lasted over 40 years. We will always have pleasant memories and warm thoughts each time we think of him.

We express our condolences to the entire Rodgers family.

The Todd Family,
Melvin, Shirley, Mariama and Asa
